Post Description
The person appointed to this post will work as a Senior Physiotherapist based in Mallow General Hospital (MGH).
Mallow General Hospital is located approximately 35 kilometres north of Cork City and serves the population of Cork and the surrounding border counties of Kerry, Limerick, and Waterford.
MGH is a Model 2 Hospital with 71 inpatient beds, providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient, and day patient services. Clinical services include General Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Gerontology, and Gastroenterology.
An additional 23 inpatient beds are scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2026, increasing overall capacity to 94 beds.
Inpatient medical activity is supported by a Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) and a High Dependency Unit (HDU).
MGH also delivers elective day surgery, endoscopy, a Local Injuries Unit, outpatient services, laboratory services, physiotherapy, and radiology services, including CT scanning and ultrasound.
The hospitalβs academic partner is University College Cork (UCC). MGH facilitates clinical placements for medical students, nursing students, and allied health professional students.

Physiotherapy Service
The Physiotherapy Service in MGH provides care across all wards, units, and departments, including the Acute Medical Assessment Unit, Local Injuries Unit, and Outpatient Physiotherapy Department.
There is a strong emphasis on effective multidisciplinary team (MDT) working within MGH.
The MGH Physiotherapy Department currently comprises 7.5 Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) staff and supports Physiotherapy students on clinical placements throughout the year.
The department works closely with colleagues in Health Region Community Services, including community-based physiotherapy services, as well as Cardiac and Respiratory Outreach Services provided by Cork University Hospital (CUH) across the North Cork region.
