Role Description – Rewritten
The Laboratory Department at Tipperary University Hospital (TippUH) is a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary diagnostic service comprising Blood Transfusion, Haematology, Biochemistry, and Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). The department also provides an external referral service to other laboratories. Led by the Chief Medical Scientist, the team consists of scientific and support staff who deliver high-quality diagnostic services for hospital inpatients, as well as Haematology and Biochemistry testing for local general practitioners and nursing homes.
The Blood Transfusion Laboratory has maintained INAB accreditation since April 2009 and fully complies with Articles 14 and 15 of EU Directive 2002/98/EC and Statutory Instruments No. 360/2005 and No. 547/2006. The department delivers routine services Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 20:00, with an on-call emergency service available at all other times.
The Laboratory Department is committed to delivering a timely, efficient, and clinically relevant diagnostic service that meets ISO 15189 requirements, supports patient care, and upholds the highest standards of professional practice.
Working in collaboration with the Chief Medical Scientist, Quality Officer, Haemovigilance Officer, Senior Medical Scientist, and clinical teams, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality laboratory service consistent with the Laboratory Quality Statement, mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organisation.
