Description:
e are seeking a dynamic, highly experienced Senior Medical Officer (Psychiatrist) to join our Acute Care team within the Mental Health and Addiction Service at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a region committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred mental health care.
In this role, you will work collaboratively across both community teams and our inpatient unit, providing specialist support to patients experiencing acute phases of mental illness. Your work will integrate early, assertive intervention in community settings with effective, patient-focused hospital admissions when required. Although this is a general psychiatry position, the clinical caseload is diverse, engaging with all major subspecialties and working closely with wider hospital and primary care teams.
You will have the opportunity to help shape innovative, culturally responsive models of care that reflect the needs of our Hawke’s Bay community. This role also offers the chance to contribute to workforce development through teaching, mentoring, and other clinical leadership activities.
Our Mental Health and Addiction Service is built around two major community teams, supported by a Kaupapa Māori mental health service delivered through our NGO partner, along with satellite teams serving smaller population areas. The wider service includes Child and Family, Home Based Treatment, Maternal Mental Health, Te Ara Manapou, Consultation-Liaison, Emergency Mental Health, Older Persons Mental Health, and Addiction Services.
We offer a strong, supportive professional environment, including a robust Peer Review Group and access to comprehensive CPD opportunities to help you meet ongoing Medical Council of New Zealand registration requirements.
