Purpose of the Post
The Clinical Midwife Manager 2 – Bereavement & Pregnancy Loss is a recognised specialist pathway developed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
The post holder will provide specialist leadership, coordination, and support to women, partners, and families experiencing pregnancy loss, termination of pregnancy, and perinatal bereavement. The role encompasses care and support following early pregnancy loss, termination of pregnancy (TOP), and perinatal death, including both expected and unexpected loss.
A central function of the role is to facilitate and support families throughout the bereavement journey, before, during, and after their loss, ensuring care is delivered in a compassionate, respectful, and trauma-informed manner. The post holder will work to coordinate a seamless pathway through maternity services, minimising additional distress, trauma, and stress for bereaved women and their families.
The Clinical Midwife Manager 2 will also contribute to the development of high-quality bereavement care practices, provide professional leadership within the maternity service, and support multidisciplinary colleagues in delivering sensitive and appropriate care in line with national standards and best practice.
