Role Overview
The post holder will support the General Manager by providing leadership and operational management across hospital services, ensuring the effective coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of patient services within a complex acute healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
The role holder will:
Take responsibility for the day-to-day operational management and coordination of patient services within the hospital.
Lead and manage scheduled and unscheduled care pathways, ensuring safe, timely, and efficient patient flow.
Ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the hospital through service planning, business management, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement of patient services.
Work collaboratively with the Hospital Executive Team to deliver organisational objectives, reporting directly to the Hospital Manager and operating within HSE and Hospital Group policy, financial, and governance frameworks.
Maintain effective communication with patients, families, consultants, multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and relevant external stakeholders, including public representatives, to ensure clarity, transparency, and continuity of information.
Liaise and engage with RCSI Hospital Committees to support the coordination and achievement of Hospital Group objectives as determined by the RCSI Hospital Group Executive Team.
Participate in a 24/7 operational management model, including a commitment to out-of-hours cover, in collaboration with other members of the Hospital Executive Committee.
Essential Criteria
Candidates must, by the closing date for applications, demonstrate the following:
Experience and Qualifications
Relevant experience within a healthcare environment or a background directly applicable to the role.
Proven management ability and administrative capacity to effectively discharge the functions of the office.
A demonstrated track record in service management, ideally within a healthcare or healthcare-related industry.
A relevant professional or third-level qualification.
Health
Candidates must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties of the post and be in a state of health that indicates a reasonable prospect of providing regular and efficient service.
Character
Candidates must be of good character and suitable for appointment.
