Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder will:
Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of high-quality medical care.
Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in accordance with best clinical practice.
Ensure that all duties are carried out with a primary focus on patient safety and wellbeing.
Perform patient assessments on admission, during care, and at discharge, maintaining accurate and comprehensive medical records.
Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic investigations as appropriate.
Initiate, monitor, and review treatment plans in collaboration with senior medical staff.
Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families, and carers.
Attend and actively participate in clinics, ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and case conferences, ensuring timely documentation and follow-up of agreed actions.
Represent the department, specialty, or team at meetings and conferences when required.
Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and clinical competence in diagnosis and patient management.
Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and risk management activities, contributing relevant data as required.
Co-operate fully with investigations, audits, and enquiries relating to the provision of healthcare services.
Maintain the highest professional standards of confidentiality, ethics, and professional conduct, in line with the Medical Council of Irelandβs Guide to Ethical Conduct and Behaviour.
Seek guidance and support from the Consultant, Clinical Director, or Executive Clinical Director for cases beyond their level of competence, in accordance with clinical governance principles.
Engage with technological and digital developments relevant to patient care and service administration.
Provide cover for unplanned absences of colleagues, as required.
Undertake additional duties as assigned by the supervising Consultant, Clinical Director, or Employer, appropriate to the role.
