Eligibility Criteria
1. Professional Qualifications, Experience and Competence
Candidates must, by the closing date for applications, meet the following requirements:
(i) Statutory Registration
Be registered as a Nurse on the active Register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or be entitled to be so registered
And
Be registered in the relevant division(s) of the NMBI Register for which the application is being made, or be entitled to be so registered
OR
In recognition of services spanning multiple patient/client groups and/or divisions of the register, provide evidence of validated competencies relevant to the context of practice
(ii) Clinical Experience and Competence
Possess a broad base of clinical experience relevant to the field of Diabetes Nursing Practice
And
Demonstrate competencies specific to specialist Diabetes nursing practice
And
Demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills, and ability, including a high standard of clinical, professional, and administrative competence, to properly discharge the functions of the role
(iii) Educational Preparation (Advanced Practice)
Candidates must meet one of the following educational criteria:
Be eligible to undertake a Masterโs Degree (or higher) in Nursing or a related discipline relevant to Advanced Practice (Diabetes) at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (QQI)
Educational preparation must include a minimum of three advanced practice modules relevant to the specialty, plus clinical practicum
Or
Be currently undertaking, or eligible within an agreed timeframe to undertake, a Masterโs Degree in Nursing (Advanced Practice Pathway) or additional Level 9 QQI modules, including:
At least three modules relevant to advanced practice
Clinical practicum
Or
Hold a Masterโs Degree (or higher) at Level 9 NFQ (QQI), relevant to the advanced field of Diabetes practice, including:
A minimum of three advanced practice modules
Clinical practicum
2. Annual Registration
On appointment, the post holder must:
Maintain live annual registration on the Advanced Nurse Practitioner Division of the NMBI Register
Confirm annual registration with the HSE through completion of the Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)
3. Health
Candidates must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties of the role and be in a state of health that indicates a reasonable prospect of providing regular and efficient service.
4. Character
Candidates must be of good character and suitable for appointment.
