Details of the Service
Six Health Regions have been established within the HSE, based on geographical boundaries approved by the Government in July 2019. Each Health Region is responsible for population-based planning, resourcing, and delivery of health and social care services, improving accountability, governance, and bringing decision-making closer to frontline services.
Health Regions are designed to enable services that are:
Integrated, locally planned, and delivered
Easier to access and navigate
Available closer to home
These geographically defined regions align hospital and community services within specific areas, while the HSE maintains a streamlined central structure with increased service delivery at local level.
The HSE South West Health Region is responsible for all public health and social care services across Cork and Kerry, incorporating:
South / South West Hospital Group (S/SWHG)
Cork Kerry Community Healthcare (CKCH)
The Department of Population and Public Health is also aligned with this region.
Services within the South West Health Region include:
Acute hospital services
Primary care services
Community services
Social care services
Health and social care professionals
Voluntary sector services
Bantry General Hospital is unique in providing both acute and residential services to the rural populations of West Cork and South Kerry. The hospital provides a 24-hour acute medical service, including a Medical Assessment Unit, Acute Medicine, Stroke, and Rehabilitation services. Surgical activity is primarily delivered through planned day-case procedures.
The hospital also operates a HIQA-registered residential unit, providing residential, respite, and palliative care services.
Purpose of the Post
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe hospital environment. Duties include carrying out catering tasks within wards and departments and providing basic patient care as directed by the Clinical Nurse Manager or Nurse in Charge, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care across the hospital.
