Description:
e are seeking a dynamic, highly experienced Senior Medical Officer (Psychiatrist) to join our Acute Care team within the Mental Health and Addiction Service at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital. This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated clinician to contribute to a progressive, patient-focused mental health service in one of New Zealand’s most vibrant regions.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with both community-based teams and our inpatient unit to support patients through the acute phases of their mental health conditions. Your work will involve delivering early and assertive intervention in the community while ensuring effective and appropriate hospital admissions when required. Although this is a general psychiatry position, the varied and stimulating clinical caseload provides exposure to all major psychiatric subspecialties, alongside regular engagement with multidisciplinary hospital and primary care teams.
As part of our service, you will have the opportunity to influence and shape innovative models of care that are responsive to the needs of our diverse Hawke’s Bay community. You will also play an important role in developing our future workforce through teaching, supervision, and participation in leadership initiatives.
Our Mental Health and Addiction Service is structured around two major community teams, with additional support provided by a Kaupapa Māori mental health service delivered through our NGO partner, as well as satellite teams serving smaller population areas. The broader service also includes Child and Family, Home Based Treatment, Maternal Mental Health, Te Ara Manapou, Consultation-Liaison, Emergency Mental Health, Older Persons Mental Health, and Addiction Services.
You will be supported by a strong professional framework, including a robust Peer Review Group and comprehensive CPD opportunities to ensure you meet all ongoing Medical Council of New Zealand registration and professional development requirements.
